Half Marathon Tips.

On Sunday I finally completed my half marathon after months of training and weeks of fundraising. I ran it in 2hrs and 18 minutes which was a huge achievement for me considering it was my first. I had family and friends supporting me and spurring me on at the end and it was one of the best moments I have ever had. I feel as if I have accomplished so much and I am more motivated than ever to push my boundaries and do things I never thought I could. I raised roughly £200 for Kidney Research UK and myself and the people around me are extremely proud.


Now for anyone who is currently training for a long distance run or are planning to in the future I thought I would share some tips and advice.

  • Do actually train for it! It is important to train for at least 6 weeks beforehand if you aren’t a strong runner. You don’t have to run the full distance e.g. I ran a maximum of 10 miles and the last 3 were fueled on crowd motivation alone. Any cardio will help  build your stamina and strengthen your muscles so you don’t get an injury.
  • Wear comfy clothes.  Wear clothing that is comfortable to run in, suitable for the weather and doesn’t just look the part. I would also recommend trying trainers and clothing beforehand so you know you are used to the feel then you won’t get any nasty surprises on the day.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others! Finishing the race alone is a huge achievement for anyone so don’t compare your finishing times to others. Be proud of yourself that you completed it!
  • Nutrition. Eating a healthy balanced diet is important whilst training for the race as I don’t drink or smoke I think this personally helped my training but don’t do anything that will make you unhappy. Another tip I have is do carb load! I started to increase my carbs 5 days before the race so my body had time to store them. It is important not to overloads as this will leave you feeling bloated and groggy. However bagels, pasta and granola are ideal pre-race fuel.
  • Stay hydrated and pick a mid race snack. As you will be sweating lots it is important to stay hydrated and replenish the fluids you have lost. Do drink lots of water in advance to the race and small regular sips throughout. At the event I did they had energy sachets that were added to the water. I chose not to drink them as I had tried them in advance and they didn’t agree with my digestion. Many runners have mid races snacks whether that be jelly babies, gummy bears or energy gels. I had energy tablets that you can just pop into your mouth and they really do give you a well needed boost especially when you are at the the 10th mile!
  • Plan a post race treat. Whether that be a massage, a manicure or a celebratory drink, it is important to relax, indulge and congratulate yourself on your accomplishment. I had a post race tea (my mum had a vodka) and then an afternoon nap and a takeaway in the evening with family.
  • Enjoy yourself! Family and friends told me that on the day I was one of the only people that crossed that finish line with a smile on my face and my arms in the a celebratory cheer. Remember the reason you are doing this and do enjoy yourself. If you are in pain or you feel too tired then slow down and pace yourself. There maybe be plenty of future races you can push yourself harder in but for now your first run is a special achievement so smile and enjoy it!

I have been meaning to do this post for a while as I’m writing about two products I got for my birthday back in November!

The first is the new Marc Jacobs perfume named Decadence. Now I’m a huge fan of Marc Jacobs and already own the Daisy and Daisy Eau So Fresh, so when I saw the magazine advert for the new one I was so excited. I had hinted at Jamie then I wanted it for my birthday but I never expected to get it as it’s quite expensive!

Like many of MJ’s exaggerated perfume bottles Decadence makes a bold statement. Packaged in a velvet green box with gold writing, it feels soft to the touch and isn’t far from luxurious. The bottle is dark green with a snakeskin print lid, has a thick gold chain and a large black tassel. When you hold it up it looks like one of his own handbags! It is definitely the most glamorous bottle of perfume I have ever owned.

The scent is fruity, earthy/woody and velvety just like the box. The plum odour isn’t overbearing which makes this a perfect evening fragrance.

The second product is now my holy grail of eyebrow products and is a new must have in my makeup bag!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade has had a huge amount of hype surrounding this product. It wasn’t until using it myself I realised why.

I ordered this is dark brown and it matches my hair perfectly. The application is smooth and easy to apply. It can look a little heavy but blends well and I have noticed after using it for 3 months now that a little goes a long way! I’ve barely made a dent in my pot. You can create any brow shape with this product as it is really pigmented.

Dipbrow is worth the cost and creates a high defined brow which accompanies a full face of makeup really well. I use this with the No. 12 Abh eyebrow brush and also sometimes use the Mac angled 208 brush.

I highly recommend this product and now I can’t wait to purchase Brow wiz!




The Weekend.

I thought I would do a little update on what I’ve been doing and what I got up to over the weekend.

A girls night to a greek restaurant called the ‘ The fat greek taverna’ was well needed on Thursday evening. We all have pressures and stresses of our day to day lives so it was definitely a release as we had a good laugh and a catch up.

The diet went out the window as we tucked into our meze. The calamari tasted amazing!


Friday night was a chilled one, Jamie and I stayed in and watched a film. We like to go to little independent stores and world food shops so we get a selection of healthy and unhealthy snacks to munch on during our relaxing evenings.

As I’m in need of a new laptop Jamie and I woke up early on Saturday to head over to PC World and have a browse. On this occasion I decided not to get one and save a little more for a new Macbook.

On my to-do list includes rescuing rabbit to accompany our existing one Dolly. She is coming to up 2 years old now, she’s been spayed and I feel like a friend (or two) would be a perfect addition to the family! We headed over to the Rspca rescue centre in Patcham to take a look. It was heartbreaking seeing all the dogs, cats and reptiles waiting to be adopted.

After chatting to the one of the members of staff and cuddling the bunnies we decided we need either one or two neutered males to live with Dolly. I recommend rescuing any animal before going to breeder or a pet shop, it is something I’m passionate about, there are so many pets already who are in desperate need of a home.

All the rabbits were gorgeous and we will be making a trip back in the coming month so watch this space!

That evening we went out for some Thai food it was delicious. Thai food is my favourite and after visiting Thailand I love trying out different Thai restaurants to see if the food can compare.

We have made our date nights a regular thing just because it allows Jamie and I to keep our relationship on track and discuss anything thats on our mind or any future plans we have.


Childhood memories.

I love Sundays! During the miserable weather Sundays are normally a day where I reflect on the week, I catch up on my diary and my 5 year memory book. However last Sunday I planned a day out for Jamie and I.

Paradise Park is a garden centre with a museum, a cafe and a walkthrough adventure trail with dinosaurs and cool shit. It’s somewhere my dad used to take me when I was a kid and I remember getting so excited about going. When I saw that it was still around I knew I had to go again for old times sake, even if wasn’t going to be how I remember.

We had a drink in the cafe and looked around the garden accessories and indoor plants. I love gardening and growing herbs, food and flowers and we have a huge amount of plants around our home. I believe it gives off good energy and it makes the air feel cleaner, so taking trips to any garden centre is highlight for me.

Walks by the Cuckmere Inn Pub (where we went for our meal) close by the seven sisters.

To end our perfect Sunday we had a roast of course! The pub was by the Seven Sisters cliffs and has beautiful scenery. The food was amazing and we got to sit by the open fire and look onto the hills.
