A Journalist never switches off.

Following an exciting day learning how to interview each other at Journalist Works. I decided to go out on the town for my best friends birthday and well it was the best decision I have made in a long time.

I am often the worst person when it comes to making a decision and often my indecisiveness makes others irritated and stressed to say the least.

So when I’d finished having a tantrum about what I was going to wear on Saturday night. I headed on the bus towards the Royal Pavillion Tavern (pav tav) telling myself to be home by 1am at the latest.

A few double vodkas later and Im shamefully partying away upstairs at the Guerilla Rocks event, talking to randoms and waiting for a favourite band of mine; Skindred to appear. It didn’t occur to me until later on in the evening or should I say early in the morning? That I had my address book in my bag and I was surrounded by event organisers, musicians and others of importance in the world of journalism.

Phone and contacts book in hand I headed around the pub on a merry journey selling myself to these people and simply asking for their contact details.

The result: I ended up with two credible contacts in my book, one of which is a an organiser for a certain music festival, who has invited me to come along next year and write a story and a review for the weekend event.

The other is a creator of a well established clothing brand that has now set its sights on conquering America and Australia.

I guess it doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing, a Journalist never switches off and always, always carries an address book.
